The Southern Regional Council and the independent Lillian Smith Book Awards panel have selected the winners of the 2000 Lillian Smith Book Award:
Michael Keith Honey, Black Workers Remember: An Oral History of Segregation, Unionism, and the Freedom Struggle, University of California Press;
Andrew M. Manis, A Fire You Can't Put Out: The Civil Rights Life of Birmingham's Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, University of Alabama Press; and
Lawrence N. Powell, Troubled Memory: Anne Levy, the Holocaust, and David Duke's Louisiana, University of North Carolina Press.
Winners will receive the awards at a luncheon in Atlanta on Friday, November 17, 2000 held at the Sheraton Colony Square Hotel. The program is part of the Lillian Smith Symposium & Awards.
