American Studies Conference: Identity, Assimilation,
Ethnicity
General Subject: "Identity, Assimilation, Ethnicity" Proposal topics may be narrowly focused on any aspect of Gerald Early's career and accomplishments or broadly focused on any aspect of the title concerns: identity, assimilation, and/or ethnicity. Potential topics may be cross-disciplinary as long as the focus remains humanistic rather than technical. Sample topic areas include: 1. African-American concerns addressed in children's literature 2. Protest literature 3. Crossing racial barriers in American sports 4. The Blues 5. The Harlem Renaissance 6. The literature of Affirmative Action

Early's works, historical contexts, and contributions, especially to our
understanding of American culture (sports, music, etc.)
To submit a proposal for an individual presentation, send a title (8-word maximum), a 250-word abstract, and a 50-word (maximum) summary for the conference program. To submit a proposal for a panel, do the same for the overall panel; cite individual participants (names, presentation titles, brief overviews).
