Texas Culture

Deadline: November 15, 2003

The 2004 Southwest/Texas Popular Culture/American Culture Association,

25th Annual Conference, held in conjunction with the National Popular
Culture/American Culture Association Conference in San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio Marriot Rivercenter Hotel, on the Riverwalk.

April 7-10, 2004 

The Texas Culture Area solicits paper and presentation proposals from
professors, graduate students, scholars, citizens, cowboys, and other
aficionados of all things Texan. Also welcome are proposals for discussions
and panels organized around common Texas-centric themes or motifs.

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

* Texas food-Barbeque!
* The Dallas Cowboys and/or The Houston Oilers
* Texas History
* Comanche Culture in Texas
* Texas-based Television Shows
* The Texas State Fair
* High School Football in Texas
* Texas Authors and Literature
* Art and Artists from Texas
* The Cowboy Boot as Cultural Icon
* Agriculture and Ranching in Texas
* Music and Musicians from Texas
* Texas Politics
* The Cowboy Hat as Cultural Icon
* Mexican-American Culture in Texas
* African-American Culture in Texas
* Juneteenth
* And, of course, other Texas-centric topics are welcome.

Application Process:

Please send an abstract of 200 words to Wallis Sanborn at the email
address or address of locale provided below. With your abstract, please include
your email address, address of locale, your university or group affiliation
(if applicable), and a title for your presentation.
