Arfie at Amelia uses photography to tell the dog’s adventure from the beach to the historic district on Amelia Island. Arfie is left alone in his family’s hot SUV as they explore the beach. He discovers an opening and escapes to look for his family. His search is unsuccessful, and he is picked up by animal control. A runner he met on the beach comes to claim him after seeing the dog’s photo in the newspaper. The story teaches pet responsibility. Photographer Roger Moore discovered “Arfie,” whose real name is Gizmo the Brave Dog, at a Nassau Humane Society pet show. Wendy and Jim Lepkowski, who portray as Arfie’s new family in the book, adopted Gizmo. Arfie’s adventure was written by Ron Kurtz, a past President and current Board member of the Nassau Humane Society. A portion of the proceeds from each book contribute to the support of the Nassau Humane Society.
