For more than 150 million years, sea turtles
have lived on Earth. With a life span similar to humans, healthy sea turtles
can live to be eighty years old. In light of pollution, sea recreation, and
populated coasts, many organizations are coming to the aid of sea turtles
and their environment. A portion of the royalties from Carolina's Story
will be donated to the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Program at the South
Carolina Aquarium. Carolina's Story: Sea Turtles Get Sick Too! follows one loggerhead turtle from the time she is washed up on the beach, sick and injured, through her treatment and healing. Once healthy, she is released back into the ocean. An educational supplement in the back of the book includes teaching trivia, conservation issues, a make-your-own sea turtle craft, and sea turtle math games. Donna Rathmell (German) is a volunteer at the South Carolina Aquarium. Before writing Carolina's Story, she wrote sixteen cookbooks, including The Bread Machine Cookbook Series, which have sold more than 3 million copies. Barbara Bergwerf is a former Chicago Tribune photographer. She relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, where she operates a wildlife photography business and donates her skills to the Island Turtle Team on Isle of Palms, the South Carolina Aquarium and the South Carolina Center for Birds of Prey.
