  Children's Book Review

Florida A to Z
by Susan Jane Ryan, Carol Tornatore (illustrator)
Pineapple Press, 2003
Hardcover, $19.95  (65 pages)
ISBN:  1-56164-249-5

Florida A to Z is a very informative children's alphabet book, and also makes a unique table book for adults.  Each letter of the alphabet has seven items that describe Florida's geography, history, plants, animals, music, landmarks, interesting people and much more.

For example with the letter "R," there are bits and pieces on Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, riverboats, the roseate spoonbill, resurrection fern, and John Ringling.  And did you like "Z" would be hard?  Not for Florida -- Zora Neale Hurston, Zephyrhills, Zellwood Sweet Corn Festival, Zoraayda Castle, and zoos.

Florida A to Z is sure to provide hours of fun and conversation for children of all ages.

Susan Ryan has been a Florida elementary school teacher for 25 years and was selected Lake County's Teacher of the Year in 1998.  She has been a consultant on several award-winning activity guides for Florida State University's Energy and Environmental Alliance and has written several environmental books for children, including Esmeralda and the Enchanted Pond, published by Pineapple Press.

Carol Tornatore is the recipient of numerous awards for her innovative designs.  She has worked on many other children's books, including Granddaddy Terry and the Pink Flash and Esmeralda and the Enchanted Pond
