In the fourth book in Mignon Ballard's Augusta Goodnight mystery series, our whimsical guardian angel is substituting for the guardian angel of Kate McBride. And if it isn't bad enough that Kate's true guardian angel is a no show, but Augusta has brought along an apprentice, who is about as graceful as a bull in a china shop. Kate and her daughter Josie have returned to Bishop's Bridge, North Carolina for the annual family reunion. This time her husband isn't joining them. Kate has recently had a miscarriage, and the couple choose the deal with their grief separately. But you know family.... Strange things are happening at Bramblewood, Uncle Ernest's estate. While hunting for her cat, Ella is injured in a fall from a ledge. She says she was pushed. Her cat, Dagwood, had been taped in a box under the ledge. But who would want to hurt the elderly housekeeper? While cleaning the old Remeth churchyard, the Belle Fleurs Garden Club discover a skeleton in a shallow grave. Then, there is that Yankee ghost looking for Confederate gold. There's a lot on the menu of this family reunion besides barbecue. Mignon F. Ballard is the author of the award-winning children's novel Aunt Matilda's Ghost, as well as the acclaimed mysteries Minerva Cries Murder and Raven Rock.
