Stories from the Blue Moon Cafe III is another lively anthology from Sonny Brewer. As in the two earlier volumes, he's combined a pleasing balance of first time and/or lesser known authors with southern favorites and best-sellers (Mary Ward Brown, Tim Gautreaux, and Daniel Wallace). While the collection is largely fiction, there's also room for journalism (Rick Bragg's "Long Time Coming"), poetry (Julianna Gray and Matt Baggett), and a musical memoir (Gordon Capps' "All About the Music"). One of the best surprises of the third volume is that a sampler c.d. by Gordon Capps, who has been alluded to in the prior collections, is tucked into the back cover of the book. New readers will find much to love while old readers will be pleased yet again. Sonny Brewer offers a hint or two about the fourth volume in his introduction. His first novel, The Poet of Tolstoy Park, is scheduled for a 2005 release.
